Piece of Blue Summer

HOSTED BY PUZZ and THE KOREAN MINISTRY OF CULTURE, SPORTS, AND TOURISM

AUGUST 2021
This series of three illustrations was created for an event, where various artists were invited to interpret the theme of ‘blue summer.’ I was also tasked with creating large silkscreened banners of my illustrations for the event and decided to go for a minimal color palette for both practical and aesthetic reasons.

As Seoul still had strict social distancing measures in place at the time, typical summer activities, especially those necessitating groups, had ground to a halt. I wanted to create a series of drawings that demonstrated ways to enjoy the summer holidays, even while distanced from others. I pictured various characters in a park: reading a book, making with insect friends (in lieu of people), and an extravagant picnic for one.

The first image was also repurposed in the Kiblind Atelier publication Les Cheveux, to illustrate the chignon.
